H.B. Thomas explained everything as if it would never happen again, or at least thats what I felt as I read this interview, simply beacuse George Hartman captured the emotions throughout the interview. H.B. was a white man, and at the time of this interview, was the age of 80 healthy years. But aside from that he was taken away by the inventions, the news travel, and his work. Most people of this time lived nothing like the way we had, they had nothing like we have today, something that people seem to take for granted. This man worked for a majority of his life as a young boy, building houses, churches, etc and it seemed to pay off in the future of his time, for inventions seemed to be progressing. Many people who lived through the depression take everything in their life as it came, and as it happened, those people were bravely fighting for their lives, in hopes that their country would be unified. - By Danielle
Jay Spencer was a mexican male who was interviewed about the Great Depression, which he lived to talk about. Tina Spencer, his granddaughter, got the oppertuntiy to interview Jay Spencer where he told her all about his life. This interview took place one Sunday evening in Aurora UT on December 7, 1997. Jay Spencer, now 97, had a rough life as a teenager, especially throughout the Great Depression. When he grew older, he became a farmer most of the time, but in the winter months, was a construction worker with his father. He didnt go to school much, he went to highschool but was six weeks late every year because of work. When he was older and married he was extremely poor. Just to paint a picture in your head, one time he dropped a silver dollar under his patio, and decided to rip up the entire patio to get it because that is how desprete for money they were. Jay was also asked if the Great depression effected the way he lived. He replied,"Well, it made me thankful for every little thing we had. Yes. Everything!" Just reading this interview made me more appreciative of the thing we all take advantage of today and it made me realize how tough life was during the great depression. - By Dana
The Great Depression was a time when money's income was slow. People survived day to day by going off to work, just so they can recive minimal wedge to get food on their tables. In our two interviews, we looked at different races. Jay Spencer a Mexican male, and H.B thomas a white American man. Jay Spencer had worked for most of his life, often missing his school learning to go off to work. He put the thoughts of surviving in this world before his education. H.B Thomas kept his hopes high everyday as he went to work. He cherished his life, living each day as his last. We think that during this time of the Great Depression, people did just that, take it one day at a time. -Combined
